AbstractChile’s domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobile handsets, and video audio and gaming products, was estimated to be worth around US$2.1bn in 2008.Despite an expected slowdown in 2009, the market is expected to grow a CAGR of 5.6% to US$ 2.7bn by 2013, driven by demand for LCD TV sets, notebook computers, digital cameras and other key products, and by rising incomes and greater credit availability. Computers Computer hardware accounted for around 47% of Chile’s consumer electronics spending in 2008, with PC penetration still below 20%. BMI forecasts Chile’s domestic market computer sales (including notebooks and accessories) of US$819mn in 2009, up from US$775mn in 2008. Computer hardware CAGR for the 2008-2013 period is forecast at about 8%, driven by sales of notebooks and netbooks. AV Devices AV devices accounted for around 43% of Chile’s consumer electronics spending in 2008. Chile’s domestic AV device market was estimated at US$890mn. Although growth will be relatively flat in 2009 and 2010, sales of digital TV sets and cameras are projected to drive AV spending to increase at a CAGR of 2..7% between 2008 and 2013. Mobile Handsets Mobile handset sales accounted for around 10% of Chile’s consumer electronics spending in 2008. Chile’s market handset sales are expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.4% to US$323mn in 2013, as mobile subscriber penetration reaches 104%.
