Abstract

Bahrain’s domestic consumer electronics devices market, defined as including computing devices, mobilehandsets and video audio and gaming products, was estimated to be worth around US$421mn in 2008.

This expected to increase to US$542mn by 2013, with increased demand for mobility, lower prices andgreater vendor and channel sales flexibility driving demand in key product categories.

Computers

Computer hardware accounted for around52% of Bahraini consumer electronicsspending in 2008. BMI forecastsBahraini domestic market computer sales(including notebooks and accessories) ofUS$236mn in 2009, up from US$219mnin 2008. Computer hardware compoundannual growth rate (CAGR) for the 2008-2013 period is forecast at about 6%, ledby notebooks and netbooks, whichcurrently account for about 60% of sales.

AV Devices

AV devices accounted for around 33% ofBahraini consumer electronics spendingin 2008. The Bahraini domestic AVdevice market was estimated atUS$140mn. The market is expected togrow at a CAGR of 3% between 2008-2013, driven largely by demand for LCDand plasma TV sets, to a value ofUS$159mn in that year.

Mobile Handsets

Mobile handset sales accounted foraround 15% of Bahraini consumerelectronics spending in 2008. Bahrainimarket handset sales are expected togrow at a CAGR of 8% to US$93mn in2013, as mobile penetration passes 200%by 2010, and there will be growingdemand for PDAs, smartphones and 3Ghandsets.
