Abstract

This IDC study (which is a translation of the Japanese report IDC #J8200106,) presents the characteristics and current situation of internet datacenters (iDC) supplied by Japan communication carriers, as well as analyzes the future direction of the market based on information obtained mainly from interviews with carriers and user surveys. In addition to presenting a market analysis for each major service category, it also forecast the internet datacenters market size from 2007 to 2012.

"Faced with a scarcity of floor space in the Tokyo metropolitan area and suburbs, carriers in Japan have continued to increase floor space and construct datacenters from 2007 to 2008. In order to meet demand for disaster recovery (DR)/business continuity plan (BCP) in the short term, carriers should consider enriching DR/BCP solution that supports target and target system requirements, construct datacenters foundation that is prepared for the shift of demand from premise rental to resource rental in the mid to long term, and realize green datacenters that fulfill environment and legal requirements", said Akiko Kawakami, market analyst, Communications, IDC Japan.
