Abstract

This IDC study forecasts for 2009-2013 the revenue for the five major nonmemory semiconductor types in enterprise, mobile PC, desktop PC, and small form factor hard disk drives. These semiconductor types are systems on a chip, motor controllers, preamplifiers, hard disk drive controllers, and read channels.

"The economic downturn will have a severe impact on the hard disk drive semiconductor market in 2009," says Shane Rau, IDC research director for Computing and Storage Semiconductors. "Broad and deep decline in demand for both the enterprise and the consumer system markets that consume hard disk drives will, in turn, cause significant decline in HDD chip demand. IDC forecasts that HDD semiconductor revenue will decline 24.9% this year."
