Synopsis

Abstract

This IDC study analyzes and provides forecasts for the Japan IT security service market by segment (consulting, system implementation, system management, and education/training) and by vendor type (systems integrators [Sis] and carriers). We examined the trends in 2007, forecast the market sizes and growth rates for the period beginning 2008 to 2012, and presented some suggestions to service vendors.

In making the forecasts for the Japan information security service market from 2009 and beyond, it was necessary to pay attention to the diverse threats, their impact on the society, the maneuvers of players from other markets, and the moves of IT security vendors in response to these. "Security solutions are becoming more sophisticated and complex technologically and since they require specialized knowledge, it is difficult for user companies to implement them on their own. In the corporate world where 'core competence' and 'selection and focus' have become common buzzwords, there is a strong motivation for companies to outsource security functions that have weak relations with their business processes," says Hideki Hanaoka, research manager, Security Research, IDC Japan.
