Construction Industry in SloveniaPublished by: Bogatin Consulting Company, d.o.o. Published: Feb. 1, 2009 - 8 Pages Table of Contents
AbstractConstruction industry in Slovenia has been lifted by a booming economy in recent years. A combined turnover of construction companies reached almost EUR 6 billion, doubling in the 5 years before 2007.The growth was based on highway construction projects, construction of buildings based on the growing real estate prices and the construction of telecommunication networks. All three are now severely reduced if not exhausted. The crisis is worst due to a peculiar 'network' development pattern of the industry that resulted in negative publicity and uncompetitive environment. Oriented almost exclusively to domestic market, it relies on the future infrastructural projects in Slovenia that will be severely influenced by the development of the financial crisis. While a number of projects worth over EUR 20 billion had been announced, it remains to be seen how many will be completed. The domestic construction market is therefore probably not going to be enough to preserve the growth of Slovenian construction companies. This report focuses on the analysis of the three main growth factors, their effect on the peculiar industry structure and prospects for future growth. Companies like SCT, Vegrad, Primorje, CPM, CGP, CM Celje, Energoplan, Konstruktor, Kraski Zidar, and GPG are analyzed in the report. Fast growing companies that represent the future of the industry are also presented, as are few foreign construction companies like Strabag, Alpine Bau, Vidoni and Oberosler.
