Abstract

The concept of a "Digital Home" encompasses different pieces of electronic equipment (such as computers, TVs, DVRs, etc) integrating into a network of devices making it easier to control the devices remotely and share content among them. As the Digital Home develops and grows in Brazil, the telecommunication industry is expected to benefit, especially from the required demand in connectivity - both in-house (WiFi, PLC, Ethernet, etc) and external (broadband, fixed and mobile telephony).

In this issue of the Brazil Telecom Services CIS, IDC analyzes the development of the Digital Home in Brazil. Looking first at the current situation of broadband, fixed telephony, mobile telephony and Pay TV in the country and how the services are being aggregated together and being offered to the Brazilian home. A comparison of the situation in Hong Kong is then reviewed before final recommendations are provided.
