Abstract

AMA Research has published the 9th edition of the report ‘Office Furniture Market - UK 2009-2013’. The office furniture market is worth around £670 million in the UK. The market has been under pressure for some years, adversely affected by a poor office construction sector and high levels of commercial office space available, whilst the recent turmoil in global financial markets has had a knock on effect on the economy as a whole. The market is expected to show a further decline in 2009 and it is likely to be 2010 before the market shows any sign of growth.

The current market conditions remain difficult, although the market has been supported by positive performance in the SOHO sector, which has been taking an increasing share of the market as a whole. The market remains highly competitive with surplus supply capacity remaining and, although imports seem to have stopped growing they have been increasing their rate of penetration, resulting in a changing distribution structure.

The report assesses this situation and presents forecasts of performance for the office furniture market, covering desking, seating, storage and other furniture, through to 2013.
