AbstractAs in other countries, UK residents 55 and older have not turned to the Internet as quickly as younger age groups. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) calculated that just 26% of adults ages 65 and over used the Web in 2008.
The UK Seniors report explores the question of why a generation that forms an increasingly large part of the UK population seems disinterested in many Internet activities.
According to government figures, there were 17.2 million people ages 55 and older in the UK in 2007, and the number is projected to pass 18 million by 2012.
As Internet penetration continues to rise, more and more of these seniors are going online. But strangely, at the same time, many older people in the UK remain unconvinced of the value of the Internet access. Some even think they are too old to use the Web.
Key questions “UK Seniors” report answers:
- How many people 55 and older are online in the UK?
- How does the online behavior of seniors online differ from that of younger Internet users?
- What are the major factors inhibiting Internet access among UK seniors?
- How many older Internet users in the UK are taking advantage of e-commerce?
- And many others
