AbstractCentral and Eastern European banking markets (CEE15*) maintained very strong performance in 2007. The combined value of banking assets of CEE15 markets increased in 2007 by nearly 25% to 810 billion EUR. Poland remained the major market in the region with assets exceeding 221 billion EUR, corresponding to ~27% regional share, followed by Czech Republic (140 bn EUR) and Hungary (95 bn EUR). The highest assets value growth has been recorded on smaller markets including: Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia and Lithuania were banking assets jumped by nearly ~40% yoy. Within the group of major 200 CEE banks, that are controlling ~91% assets on CEE 15 markets, a very strong financial performance could be observed.
