The group was formed in 2007 as a result of merger between two leading asset managers, Bank of New York Company (BNY) and Mellon Financial Corporation (Mellon). The group operates in the US, Europe, and in the Asia Pacific region. The group is headquartered in New York and employs 22,961 people. As BNYMC came into existence in 2007 financial data for the combined group for the fiscal year end 2006 is unavailable, and one of BNYMC’s parent company, BNY, is covered instead. BNY recorded revenues of $6,821 million in the fiscal year ended December 2006, an increase of 13% over 2005. The growth the operating environment was more favorable than in 2005. Consequently the performance in 2006 was better than that in 2005. The operating income was $2,170 million in the fiscal year 2006, an increase of 9.7% over 2005. The net profit was $3,011 million in the fiscal year 2006, an increase of 91.7% over 2005. Net income rose sharply due to the inclusion of discontinued operations. Excluding the discontinued operations results, BNY’s net income in 2006 rose by 9.9% over 2005.
