McDonald's Corporation (McDonald's) is the world's largest foodservice retailing chain, known for its burgers and fries, which it sells through its 31,370 fast-food restaurants in more than 118 countries. In 2008, it plans to leverage upon its key consumer insights and global experience, while developing and implementing initiatives surrounding convenience, branded affordability and menu variety.

Highlights

Of the 31,370 McDonald’s restaurants, over 6,900 are operated by the company and more than 20,500 are operated by franchisees. The rest, around 3,960 restaurants, are operated by affiliates. In August 2007, McDonald's sold Boston Market Corporation, its non core business unit, to affiliates of Sun Capital Partners, Inc., a private investment firm specializing in leveraged buyouts and investments. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. In January 2008, McDonald's announced that Ralph Alvarez, President and Chief Operating Officer, has been elected to the company’s Board of Directors, with immediate effect.
