AbstractThis Frost & Sullivan research service titled European Aftermarket for Access and Security Systems provides insights into the potential of the aftermarket and the demand for access and security systems. In this research, Frost & Sullivan's expert analysts thoroughly examine the following technologies: after-theft devices, including stolen vehicle tracking (SVT) systems, car alarm systems and car immobiliser systems, as well as access systems such as remote keyless entry (RKE) and passive keyless entry (PKE).
This analysis is available through our Automotive & Transportation Growth Partnership Services programme. With this programme, clients receive industry-leading market research such as this, along with technical and econometric data and many interactive features including Analyst Inquiry Time and Client Councils.
Market Overview
SVT Offers Significant Growth Potential
Traditionally sold in the aftermarket, access and security systems such as immobilisers and remote keyless entry (RKE) are currently being offered as standard, factory-fitted features by vehicle manufacturers. The stolen vehicle tracking (SVT) system is emerging as a promising vehicular security product in the aftermarket. Revenues of SVT system is projected to constitute an estimated 86.8 per cent of the total European access and security systems aftermarket (not considering Eastern Europe) in 2014. Currently installed in the aftermarket in highly priced and highly risk-prone cars, the trend of installing SVT systems will migrate towards the mid-size car segment as unit prices decrease.
Although overall revenues of the anti-theft systems market is falling even as the demand for car alarms, RKE and immobilisers declines, SVT system will exhibit promising growth potential in the aftermarket. Its prospects will be positively influenced by insurance requirements in the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain. Strict insurance requirements in the United Kingdom will create an attractive aftermarket for anti-theft systems. Car alarms will emerge as another promising security product in the aftermarket. Although OE penetration of anti-theft systems will rise, these systems will need to be fitted into cars imported from Eastern Europe, China and India, which do not incorporate such systems.
Trend towards Integrating Access and Security Systems at OE to have Major Impact
The advent of integrating access and security systems at the OE level is having a major impact on their demand in the aftermarket. "The integration of security systems with existing OE systems will present a major challenge in the aftermarket, necessitating a clear understanding of OE systems and the entire car network," states the analyst of this research. "At the same time, the up-coming e-Call voluntary agreement can upset the market demand for SVT systems in the aftermarket." SVT systems, which are still in the nascent growth stage, will expand significantly until the implementation of the e-Call voluntary agreement.
Though e-Call is targeted towards safety, vehicle manufacturers are examining the possibility of installing multi-functional telematic services, wherein they offer various telematics services integrated into a single telematics unit. "The integration of security systems such as SVT to existing OE-fitted systems compels an in-depth knowledge of OE systems," explains the analyst. "After the e-Call voluntary agreement is implemented in Europe, vehicle manufacturers can offer an OE-fitted, multi-functional telematic system that can provide services such as e-call, SVT, pay-as-you-drive (PAYD), remote vehicle diagnostics (RVD) and other navigation services." The integration of SVT systems with other telematic services, including PAYD, e-Call and other location-based services, on a single telematics box will have a positive impact on market revenues.
