AbstractAn exhaust system has two purposes. On the one hand, it reduces noise by means of a silencing system, and on the other hand, it reduces the pollutants contained in exhaust gases by means of catalytic converters.
As each new emissions regulation swings into force, more and more content is being added to the exhaust in order to comply. Manufacturers believe that the emissions control content per light vehicle will rise over the next few years, a result of introducing multiple catalytic converters per vehicle, heat exchangers and particulate filters.
In our fourth edition of the vehicle exhaust systems report we review the key market drivers, and investigate the latest trends and technologies. The report also takes a look at the emerging markets, (China, India, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia and Turkey), provides market share data for selected regions, and offers a number of exclusive interviews with manufacturers.
Chapter 1: Introduction - Brief overview of the market.
Chapter 2: The market - This chapter includes a number of exclusive Q&A's with: - Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Reuter, vice president, sales and engineering, Tenneco Emission Control International, Geschäftsführer Heinrich Gillet GmbH.
- Riccardo Buratti, responsible for diesel engine control systems at Magneti Marelli Powertrain and Luigi Lubrano, R&D Manager at Magneti Marelli Exhaust Systems, and;
- Dipl. Ing. Wolfgang Maus, Emitec CEO about the current market and technical trends in automotive emission technologies.
Vehiclemakers are increasingly focusing on emerging markets for growth opportunities. We take a look at these markets, as well as providing market share data for the European and North American market. Forecasts also show market value of OE emission control technologies for passenger cars and light vehicle applications in Europe, North America, Japan and China to 2014.
Chapter 3: Technical review - In this chapter we define the elements of exhaust systems, and take a look at the measures being taken by the manufacturers to tackle vehicle pollution. New developments in catalytic converters and Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) are discussed, and we include comment from executives such as Ivan Samalot, chief engineer for exhaust sensors at Delphi's technical centre in Brighton, Michigan, and Andy McCabe, Zircotec's technical director.
Latest trends in particulate filters and exhaust acoustics are investigated and exclusive remarks from Dr.-Ing. Jan Krüger at Eberspächer is provided.
Chapter 4: Manufacturers - Learn more about the main manufacturers latest movements with these company profiles. Read about Bosal, Calsonic Kansei, Eberspächer, Faurecia, Magneti Marelli and Tenneco's customers, products, facilities, sales, and mergers and acquisitions.
