AbstractThailand’s textiles industry is ranked 21st in the world textile market. The industry contributes approximately 1.2% of total GDP and make up the largest manufacturing sector with more than 20% of total employment in manufacturing sector involved in the industry. Thailand economy is export dependent with Textiles & Apparels export value grew with a CAGR of 6.2% from 2003-2006, to reach USD 6.84 billion in 2006.Textiles & apparels industry becomes more competitive in the global market due to the full liberalization in textile quotas under WTO. Thailand is becoming less competitive against cheap labor countries, but Thailand’s textiles and garments have better quality and are more widely accepted in the global market. The industry has the potential to grow enormously because of the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement (JTEPA) and the government sponsored programs to advance the Thai fashion industry beyond OEM-based production to higher value-added design and brand development work are preparing the industry further to compete in the post- Multifiber Agreement (MFA) environment.
