Abstract

China's TFT-LCD panel industry is not as well-developed as those in Japan, Korea, and Taiwan, but it is a key part of China's Eleventh Five-Year Plan, and China's LCD market is among the fastest-growing in the world. These factors have contributed to the rise of the country's TFT-LCD industry. China's leading TFT-LCD manufacturers are SVA-NEC, BOE, and IVO, with SVA-NEC and BOE boasting the largest production capacity. In late 2006, the three announced a merger to halt continued financial losses and planned to complete the merger in the third quarter of 2007.
