Abstract

In 2005, the Indian dental care services market was US$446m and dental equipments and appliances market was US$66m growth rate of 9.6% over previous year. India’s major dental imports include dental furniture (US$9.76m in 2005), followed by dental cements (US$6.71m) and radiation apparatus (US$5.39m). There are about 200 Dental schools, 80,000 dentists (1000 in dental implants). At the moment, India has one dentist for every 10,000 persons in urban areas and one for about 250,000 persons in rural areas, offering immense opportunity for growth in future. The demand for Dental Equipment continues to expand to meet the raising domestic healthcare needs. Both the government and private sector hospitals are in the process of upgrading the facilities supporting the growth DE. The Government of India continues to liberalize trade regulations and currently allows the importation of all medical equipment and instruments, including Dental Equipments
