Abstract

It's that time of year when we think about what happened over the past year and look forward to what the future may hold. A big part of the New Year is making resolutions for changes we’d like to make moving forward.

From a personal perspective, this list is pretty consistent year in and year out. We all want to:
  • Lose weight
  • Exercise more
  • Pay off debts
  • Save more money
  • Provide better income for family
  • Spend more quality time with family
This list isn’t too different for the average graphic communications service provider. Everyone talks about developing strategies to:
  • Cut expenses
  • Increase sales
  • Improve product quality
  • Build partnerships with suppliers
  • Reduce short-term and long-term debt
Our personal and professional resolutions aren’t all that different. Each year, we all vow to try harder to do the things we know we should do—like getting in better shape physically, financially, and emotionally.

The easy part is deciding what you want to achieve and what you want to make happen. The next piece is more of a challenge—you need to lay out the strategy to reach the objectives you’ve established. You need to build a strong business development plan.

While I’ll leave the personal improvement resolutions to you to handle, this is a good time to reflect on whether you have the right business strategy in place for 2007.
