Abstract

Recovery requirements for key business process failures are rapidly becoming low single-digit hours/minutes. The pervasive world is driving infrastructure requirements 24x7x365, straining all IT organisations (ITOs) and forcing business leaders to assess true risk caused by an outage or a disaster. The problem is that most CxOs believe that they currently have such an environment and have not done the proper due diligence as to current recovery capabilities verses perceived ones. Corporate governance is traditionally weak (and not current) and provides minimal guidance to IT business continuity efforts. This dilemma is causing ITOs to become more proactive in assessing current capabilities related to each application and supporting business processes. In addition, best practices have emerged over the past few years that assist in decision-making processes and minimise mis-steps or oversights. Many are lessons learned from actual projects, testing scenarios and actual failure situations.
