Abstract

Digital TV services are rapidly expanding around the world. By the end of 2006, there will be over 175 million households that are watching digital TV services delivered by satellite TV service providers, IPTV service providers, cable TV operators, or digital terrestrial TV services. However, the growing number of digital TV households also creates a challenge for pay-TV service providers: how to protect their valuable video content from piracy or illegal usage.

The common industry solution to this challenge is through the use of conditional access technologies. Conditional access (CA) technologies protect video content by requiring that certain criteria be met before a specific end-user is granted access to that content.

This report covers conditional access products and technologies in the pay-TV services industry. It discusses why there is a need for conditional access in the pay-TV industry, how it works, and highlights the basic b

usiness models in use today. The report also profiles leading conditional access product vendors and provides current vendor market shares. In addition, it forecasts worldwide revenues for pay-TV conditional access products through 2010.
