AbstractThis is the most comprehensive analysis of the $700 billion U.S. engineering and construction marketplace available from any source. The handbook provides a thorough and in-depth assessment of the major A/E/C market sectors commercial buildings, federal facilities, transportation, environmental, energy, industrial, and residential. Niche opportunities are also assessed, including disaster management, facility management, homeland security, telecommunications, cultural resources assessment, natural resources reconstruction, and green/sustainable projects.
Founded in 1972 as a consulting engineering firm, Richard K. Miller & Associates has parlayed its technical experience to become one of the most established market research publishers in the United States. Over 20,000 copies of the firm's engineering and technology market studies have been used by clients worldwide - including virtually all of the large A/E/C firms and over 450 of the Fortune 500 companies.
Richard K. Miller, president of the firm, was the principal analyst for "The A/E/C Market Research Handbook." His insight into the marketplace is based on his years as a consulting engineer, which date back to 1970. Some of his accomplishments include developing the first real-time environmental monitoring system for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, directing some of the early installations of industrial robots in the U.S., and completing a wide range of manufacturing-related projects for over 400 industrial clients. He has consulted to six federal agencies, including three branches of the Department of Defense, and several municipal governmental agencies.
Prior to his consulting endeavors, Mr. Miller worked in the engineering design and military products groups at Electro-Voice and prototyped five inventions that evolved into commercial products. Recognized as a pioneer in computer-aided engineering, he developed, in the late 1960s, the first computer simulation models used for commercial sensor design. A Director Emeritus of the Association of Energy Engineers, Mr. Miller also is a member of several other professional associations. He has developed engineering seminars for over a dozen associations and universities. Author and co-author of over 300 market studies and engineering books, Mr. Miller's books have been published by Prentice Hall, Van Nostrand Reinhold, SEAI Technical Publications, The Fairmont Press and Marcel Dekker. He is a Certified Manufacturing Engineer (by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers), a Certified Energy Manager (by the Association of Energy Engineers) and is certified by the U.S. Department of Labor in Noise Generation and Control. Richard K. Miller is a Purdue University graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
As a market analyst and futurist, Richard has shown amazing insight into recognizing emerging market opportunities before they hit the radar screen. He published an assessment of the Internet in 1984 (it was called Arpanet at that time). He consulted in environmental, safety and health before the formation of EPA and OSHA. He advised clients on the market opportunities of contaminated site remediation before the enactment of Superfund. And he taught seminars on the energy business before the Arab Oil Embargo and formation of DOE. Since the early 2000s, he has written on market opportunities in homeland security, disaster management, sustainable energy, natural resource restoration and global warming mitigation.
With this type of insight, "The 2007 Architectural/Engineering/Construction Market Research Handbook" is like a roadmap to the future of the A/E/C marketplace.
