It offers strategic insights into current and future market trends, and analyzes major market drivers and restraints. The study also provides a detailed market share analysis by technology type as well as profiles of vehicle manufacturers and steering system suppliers. In this research service, Frost & Sullivan's expert analysts thoroughly examine MS, HPS, and EPS systems. Market Sectors Expert Frost & Sullivan analysts thoroughly examine the following market sectors in this research:
The following technologies are covered in this research:
HPS Systems Dominate Steering Systems Market Three major types of steering systems are used by Indonesian automotive companies- manual steering (MS), hydraulic power steering (HPS) and electric power steering (EPS). Of these, HPS systems have the strongest presence despite being introduced as recently as 2002, accounting for 54.0 percent of the steering systems market in 2005. By 2012, these efficient systems are expected to enjoy penetration rates of about 80.0 percent as they increasingly replace MS systems. Thus, while MS systems held 38.8 percent of the market in 2005, they are likely to experience a decrease in market share due to rising replacement by HPS systems. "Frost & Sullivan expects that by 2012, the use of MS systems will be restricted to certain categories of light commercial vehicles (LCV) such as the minibus, with the majority of vehicles in Indonesia expected to shift to HPS systems," says the analyst of this research service. Although launched at the same time as HPS systems, EPS systems currently have only a limited penetration in high-end vehicles, accounting for 7.2 percent of the market in 2005. Going forward, these systems are expected to grow at a steady but slow rate, owing to their high costs and difficulty in maneuvering at high speeds. Market Gears up for Strong Growth After Thailand and Malaysia, Indonesia is the third largest automotive market in southeast Asia, and has registered significant growth in recent years. This has had a positive impact on the related market for steering systems, which is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.3 percent from 2005 to 2012. From 2008 onwards, an anticipated increase in vehicle manufacturers’ capacities and automotive production due to an expected economic recovery as well as the complete implementation of ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) are likely to positively influence market growth. "Frost & Sullivan believes that the setting up of local steering system manufacturing and integrating units will further contribute to this growth," notes the analyst. "However, transient recessionary conditions triggered by the Government’s long-term fiscal measures, withdrawal of fuel subsidies, and an increase in the bank interest rates could restrain the market growth in the short term."
