Abstract

Older adults ages 50 and over represent a significant market segment for the wireless industry. In 2006, half of the 78 million Americans in the baby boomer generation are aged 50 or older. With 4 million more joining the over 50 ranks each year, the 50+ marketplace is expected to grow by 70% in the next 15 years. This In-Dustry Update explores the different voice and data usage patterns of the 50 and older demographic. For purposes of exploring diversity, the survey respondents have been segmented into different age groups - 50-to-54 year olds, 55-to-64 year olds, and those mobile consumers age 65 and older.

The use of multiple handsets, the adoption of group or family rate plans, consumer loyalty, consumer migration, handset features, and desired functionality are all explored within this report.
