Synopsis

Abstract

This IDC study summarizes the proceedings of the first Chief Learning Officer Magazine Think Tank . Chief learning officers (CLOs) from 13 large enterprises convened in August 2006 to discuss critical issues and share key practices. The Think Tank explored dozens of topics with frank and far-ranging discussion. CLOs described their practices and frustrations in four major areas:

Identifying competency gaps in the enterprise Establishing a learning culture Running learning like a business Working with business units for complete enterprise education

"Even as the debate regarding the relative merits of elearning and classroom training subsides, systemic and structural challenges face enterprise learning organizations as they seek to maintain and improve relevance to their stakeholders. Alignment of learning with the enterprise objectives will replace ROI as the single most important challenge facing training professionals." ? Cushing Anderson, program director, Corporate Learning and Performance Services research
