Abstract

In Dallas County area, there are approximately 1.4 million people employed by 62 thousand business establishments. These establishments generate nearly $300 billion in revenues per year. Compared to the state of Texas and to the nation as a whole, Dallas County has not faired particularly well. Over the past five years (2001-2005) Dallas County has experienced a moderate decline in employment and business activity. For the period 2005 to 2010 RDA is expecting employment and business activity to stabilize and essentially remain constant over the period. This reflects a bottoming out of the County's negative growth trend that began in 2004 and 2005. As a benchmark RDA Global is forecasting, for the same period, 9.7 percent growth in employment for the state of Texas and 7.6 percent growth in employment for the U.S. as a whole.

Employment has been contracting in Dallas County since 2000 and this trend has continued up until 2005. From 2006 onward, employment will be essentially flat in Dallas county with a 4-year CAGR under 1% from 2006-2010. By comparison, the Dallas MSA (composed of Dallas County and, Dallas City Limits and the larger Dallas area suburbs) is among the fastest growing Metro Areas in the USA. The Dallas MSA will see a robust 3% growth in employment in 2006, moderating to just over 2% growth in 2007 and beyond. The growth of Dallas MSA tracks well with the State of Texas overall, which will continue to grow faster than the US overall throughout the forecast period.
