Abstract

Given previous trends and current federal guidance, nearly all 50 states (plus the District of Columbia) will have Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) or similar functions in place within the next few years. These positions will have increasing direct purchasing power for security solutions and services as well as increasing responsibility for and authority over enterprise—that is, “state government-wide”—deployment of these solutions and services. This INPUT/Output report reviews the current status of the state CISO function and the opportunities for IT solution providers.
