Abstract

This IDC Flash looks at the DARPA HPCS program, which is nearing the end of phase 2. At SC05 in Seattle, Sun and Luxtera announced early R&D results related to Sun's proximity interconnect research combined with Luxtera's high-speed optical interconnects, called CMOS Photonics. The DARPA petascale HPC computers under design are targeted for the 2010 time frame, but early examples may show up a year earlier. At SC05, the two companies demonstrated 40Gbps bandwidth.
