Report Highlights According to the longest running study with kids on the Internet, kids’ cell/mobile phone ownership has increased 142% since 2001. Mobile/cell phones, ultra light laptops and I-Pods are the most in demand products for use in the future. Mobile/cell phones are the device of choice for talking (75% of kids) and text messaging (72% of kids). The majority of kids view the ultra light laptop as being the tool for playing multi-player games, doing their homework, and surfing the Internet. Those who own a mobile/cell phone have features such as games, text messaging and programmable ring tones. But kids also want new technologies (such as camera and music capability) to compliment their current lifestyle. Kids’ Internet usage will continue to increase, with 64% saying that in five years they will be using the Internet even more than they are now for school work, to surf more sites, and because they enjoy being on the Web.
