Further Sources Associations General Sources Government Sources Other Sources Bonnier Information Sources AbstractKey Note estimates that the UK market for photocopiers and fax machines was worth £790m at manufacturers' selling prices (msp) in 2003, having grown by 2.6% over the previous year. The market includes analogue copiers, digital copiers and copier/printers (many of which offer fax facilities as standard or as an option), 'all-in-one' multifunctional products (MFPs, which combine copying, faxing, scanning and printing) and stand-alone fax machines. Copiers are subdivided into seven segments according to their speed of operation, with an eighth segment for colour copiers. Although the economic background in the UK has been fairly favourable in recent years, business confidence was weakened in 2001 and 2002, and the corporate market for copiers and other office imaging equipment was sluggish. The market showed some improvement in 2003, however, with an increase in machine replacements. Prices of copiers and MFPs have fallen over the past 4 years. Rather than reducing the overall value of the market, this has enabled customers to migrate to higher-capacity machines and machines with greater functionality. The market has seen steady product innovation and improvement. The trend from analogue to digital copiers has been fairly swift: by 1999, more than 50% of copiers were digital, and by 2003 the vast majority of copiers fell into this category. Growth in the market's value in 2003 was driven by the greatly extended range of MFPs and by the availability of lower-cost colour printing/copying in the form of machines that can switch between black-and-white and colour. Key Note forecasts continued gradual growth in the value of the market over the period to 2008. Colour printing/copying is expected to be the most important driver of sales in 2004 and beyond. Sales of stand-alone fax machines will continue to decline as purchasers opt instead for MFPs. Key Note Market Reports
