Abstract

Amplitude Research® conducted the study over a 20-day period beginning on September 12, 2005 and ending on October 1, 2005. Similar studies were conducted during each of the prior three years. There were 615 survey respondents in the current year's study. The margin of error was 3.93% at a 95% confidence level.

Demographic Information About the Respondents:
  • 72% have worked in the technology sector for six years or more.
  • 25% are network or systems administrators; 15% are executives at tech companies; 14% are software programmers, engineers, developers or architects; 14% are technical support specialists; and the others are IT professionals working in such areas as database administration, web development, internet security, or LAN management.
  • All regions of the country are represented with the largest percentage of respondents residing in the Pacific (WA, OR, CA, AK, HI) (20%), South Atlantic (DE, MD, WV, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, DC) (19%), East North Central (WI, IL, IN, MI, OH) (16%), and Middle Atlantic (NY, NJ, PA) (16%) regions of the country.
  • 15% work for companies with revenues of $250,000 or less, 24% work for companies with revenues of $250,000 to $5 million, 19% work for companies with revenues of $5 million to $50 million, 17% work for companies with revenues of $50 million to $500 million, and 25% work for companies with revenues of $500 million or more.
