AbstractThis report details demand for wireless services by those individuals in Generation Y (Gen Y or Youth), which for this study is defined as children and teens aged 10 to 17, as well as 18-24 year-old college-age individuals. According to the US Census Bureau, there are approximately 60 million people in the United States that comprise this growth segment, making it an enormous opportunity. Cahners In-Stat Group has created both user and subscriber forecasts for three youth segments: 10-17 year-olds, 18-24 year-old college students, and 18-24 year-old first-time wage earners. In the youth market (age 10 to 24), Cahners In-Stat forecasts the number of wireless subscribers will grow from 11 million in 2000 to more than 30 million in 2004. This report provides subscriber forecasts for all Gen Y segments, and reviews some of the strategies wireless service providers use to reach this market. To determine demand for wireless equipment and services in the Generation Y Market, Cahners In-Stat Group performed a total of 2,000 telephone and mall surveys. As such, it is one of the largest primary research projects of its kind, providing invaluable information on the Gen "Yerless" market.
