AbstractThis report provides size of business and vertical industry perspectives of market statistics on the number of firms and employees in the enterprise business market. The research also provides data on the primary work environments of employees in this market, including the number of telecommuters, Internet-accessing telecommuters, and remote branch offices. Detailed five-year forecasts are included for all enterprise business demographics, along with a discussion of current market trends.
Through the recession of the past several years, In-Stat/MDR estimates that the number of enterprise firms actually increased steadily, driven by merger and acquisition activity among smaller firms. While this growth is expected to continue through 2008, the rate of growth is expected to be less than that of smaller firms. In terms of employment, the number of enterprise workers decreased slightly in both 2002 and 2003, as firms downsized their workforces. However, in 2004 and beyond, employment is expected to grow, though, again, at a lesser rate than in segments of smaller firms.
