Colombia Country Profile 2011

Colombia’s mobile penetration is considerably higher than it would be, given the country’s general economic indicators. The relative high figure was largely due to the country’s mobile rates, which have been among the lowest in Latin America.

The market was gravely affected by the economic recession in 2009. In the year of 2009, the mobile subscriber base began to shrink for the first time, ending with a 0.5% contraction in the year. Nevertheless, the mobile market returned to growth in 2010. The number of subscribers rose by 3.7% in the first 3 months of 2010 0.5% as the two smallest operators gained customers.
