Senior Controller
MarketResearch.com, the leading provider of market research, is seeking a Senior Controller for our Rockville, MD office with 10 plus years of experience in all aspects of accounting. This includes planning and executing all aspects of accounting functions, along with the financial affairs of the organization and preparation of financial analyses of operations, including interim and final financial statements with supporting schedules. This person will report to the SVP, Global Operations and will work closely with the executive team. This Senior Controller is responsible for creating, and then maintaining, accounting process and systems which will accurately appraise management regarding all areas of operational effectiveness while aligning with long-term business growth objectives. This individual will direct the financial affairs of the organization and prepare financial analyses of operations – including accurate forecasting/balancing, accounting, reporting, fiscal record-keeping, payroll, internal audits, and budgeting. This professional will enhance relationships with credit institutions and the financial community to maintain and promote the high standard of business ethics in which the company operates. Responsibilities: • Creates appropriate accounting systems in order to accurately appraise management regarding profitability, performance against budget as it relates to fiscal and operating effectiveness of the organization. • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of Accounts Payable and petty cash, employee expense reports, cash control, core payroll processing and total corporate payroll tax compliance. Prepares various cash, AP discount and capitalization reports on a monthly basis. • Ensure accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, internal audits, financial reviews, and budgets. • Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, institutes and maintains other planning and control procedures, and analyzes and reports variances by both month-end and year-end. • Oversee the activities of Account Receivable including billings, cash receipts application, etc. • Maintains the company’s system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions, inventories, and assets. • Performs internal audits of the various companywide operations and reports results to the SVP, Global Operations and the CEO. • Responsible for ensuring a timely and on-budget external annual audit of all financial and accounting practices. • Assist CEO and SVP, Global Operations in establishing major economic objectives and policies for the company and prepares reports that outline the company’s financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings, based on past, present, and future operations. • Prepares reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations as well as those reports required by regulatory agencies • Responsible for tax planning and compliance with all federal, state and local corporate, payroll, workmen’s compensation, and other applicable taxes. Advises management on desirable operational adjustments due to tax code revisions. • Determines depreciation rates to apply to capitalized items. • Advises management about insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities. Direct determination of depreciation rates to apply to capital assets. • Responsible for providing effective financial controls and safeguards for the organization. • Develops project plans, coordinate projects, communicate changes and progress of projects and completes projects on time and on budget. • Directly supervises, coaches, trains and mentors a small team of accounting professionals. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Qualifications: • 10+ years experience in all aspects of accounting • Solid understanding of financial analysis, measuring ROI, and forecasting revenue. • Proven supervisory experience. • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration. • CPA certification required • Proficiency with the MS Dynamics/Solomon database software • Experience with FRx Reporting • Proficient knowledge of Excel, problem solving and analytical skills required. • Solid understanding of US GAPP, UK GAPP experience preferred. • Experience with producing relevant reporting to executive management • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. • Ability to thrive in a fast paced working environment. • Strong team player, capable of managing projects requiring input from multiple sources, with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
