Merger and acquisition (M&A) activity in the wireless sector is heating up, with HP’s $1.2 billion purchase of Palm just the latest in a string of exciting deals. But unlike many of the big acquisitions prior to 2009, recent M&A activity has been driven by asset and capability acquisition rather than simple market consolidation. This race to acquire key capabilities reflects the evolution of wireless and suggests that more deals are on the horizon.
