Report Excerpt

6.3.6 The Indian Anti-counterfeiting Technologies Market, 2010-2021

In 2010, India accounted for only 0.89% (Table 6.4 and Figure 6.3) of the global anti-counterfeiting technologies market and generated more than $4m in revenues (Table 6.13 and Figure 6.10). By 2015, India’s share of the global anti-counterfeiting technologies market will grow to 1.20% (Table 6.4 and Figure 6.4) and by 2021 this will grow to 1.60% (Table 6.4 and Figure 6.5). India has recently mandated that all exports from the country will carry a 2D Datamatrix label. This will act as a deterrent to criminals who are intent on exporting counterfeit brand medicines manufactured in India. The move will also improve the image of Indian exports, which has been hampered by the recent discovery of counterfeit Chinese medicines carrying the “Made in India” label. The mandate will be a market driver for the trade of anti-counterfeiting technologies in India. By 2015, the Indian anti-counterfeiting technologies market will generate approximately $12m in revenues (Table 6.13 and Figure 6.10). Visiongain forecasts a CAGR of 22.37% from 2010-2015. Further growth is expected from 2016-2021. Visiongain expects that anti-counterfeiting technologies based on 2D Datamatrix labels will account for the bulk of the market, but some companies will use 2D serialisation alongside RFID. By 2021, the Indian anti-counterfeiting technologies market is expected to generate $27m in revenues (Table 6.14 and Figure 6.10). The Indian market will grow with a CAGR of 14.13% from 2016-2021.
