Vendor Analysis 2004: Cerner Corp.

Cerner is well positioned in the US healthcare-IT market but has not found significant success in its overseas markets even though it is present in many countries. TekPlus believes Cerner needs to solidify its presence in markets outside the US to enhance its global market share. It should not decrease its presence in Europe even after losing the UK contracts. Cerner’s Cerner Millennium architecture is aligned well with the industry trend for fully integrated solutions and this is providing a competitive edge to the company. The company also has strength in its wide product portfolio. It has had good opportunities in the services segment and it should capitalise on them, especially in Managed Services. The entrance into the homecare-IT market is welcomed and the company will realise longer-term rewards here. Cerner needs to articulate its long term vision better and significantly enhance its marketing activities and messaging.
