Online Security: market research reports

1598

Online security or internet security is an arm of computer security related only to the internet and online activities. Online security is necessary to prevent attacks over the internet as the internet is generally unsecured.

Some of the main threats to online security are viruses, spyware, adware, malware and phishing. These programs may use the internet to infect a computer. Some of these programs, such as malware or malicious software, may disrupt operation and gather information.

This can lead to a loss of security including exploitation, unauthorized entry to a network and loss of privacy. Other threats to online security, such as phishing, are attempts to gather sensitive information, such as passwords or financial information, which can then be used for other purposes. Phishing is commonly carried out through emails or instant messages.

One method of online security is encryption. This may be used to secure transactions which are conducted over the internet. Another common method used for online security is a firewall. A firewall is used to impose restrictions on packets to and from private networks. Firewalls will only allow approved traffic to pass through. Also, a firewall may hide the internal network system from the general public internet.

Online security is also available in the form of an antivirus software program. These programs detect viruses and may also contain anti-spyware and other modes of protection. Browser choice may also play a role in online security. Some internet browsers are considered to be more secure than others.
