Paraguay

Paraguay is a constitutional republic is South American bordered by Argentina, Brazil, and Bolivia. Its capital, Asuncion, harbors the majority of the people. The Chaco, a region that extends west and includes an enormous area of dry forest, accounts for about 60% of the territory but only 2% of the population. Ethnically and socially Paraguay has one of the most homogeneous populations in Latin America.

Ninety five percent of the people are of mixed Spanish and Guarani Amerindian decent. The Guaraní was an indigenous population that lived in Paraguay before the Europeans colonized the country. Both Spanish and Guaraní are the official languages; Guaraní is understood by 95% of the population. But aside from the language, little remains from the Guaraní culture. Brazilians are the largest group of immigrants that have settled in Paraguay.

La República constitucional del Paraguay es un país sudamericano rodeado por Argentina, Brasil, y Bolivia. Su capital, Asunción, reune a casi toda su población. El chaco, una región que se extiende hace el oeste e incluye una enorme área de selva humeda, comprende cerca del 60% de su territorio pero solamente el 2% de su población. Paraguy tiene la población mas homogénea, étnicamente y socialmente, de América Latina. Noventa y cinco por ciento de su pueblo es de origen mixto español y Guaraní. Los Guaraníes eran la poblacíon indígena que habitaba el Pagaguay antes de la llegada de los Europeos. Tanto el Español como el Guaraní son lenguas oficiales en Pagaguay. El 95% de la población comprende el Guaraní. Pero, aparte del lenguaje, muy poco queda de la cultura Guaraní. La inmigracion proviene en su mayoría de Brasil.
