Nicaragua is a representative democracy. It is a country in Latin America that borders Honduras, Costa Rica, and the Caribbean. Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, with an area of approximately 130 thousand kilometers square. Nicaragua was conquered by Spain in the 16th century and the territory was governed by the Virreinato de Nueva España (the Viceroyalty of New Spain).

The population of Nicaragua is 6 million.

The national language is Spanish, although in some areas English and indigenous languages are spoken. Nicaragua’s population is multiethnic. Different groups include indigenous tribes, Europeans, Africans, and Asians.

After the Civil War many Nicaraguans left the country. Although some returned, unemployment and poverty kept a large number of Nicaraguans abroad, mainly in Costa Rica and the United States.

Es el país mas grande de America Central, con un área de unos 130 mil Kilometros cuadrados. Nigaragua fue conquistada por España en el siglo 16 y el territorio fue governado por el Virreinato de Nueva España.

La población de Nicaragua es de 6 millones. La lengua nacional es el Español y otros idiomas indígenas también se hablan. Su población es multiétnica. Los diferentes grupos incluyen indígenas, Europeos, Africanos, y Asiáticos.

Luego de la guerra civil, muchos Nicaraguenses dejaron el país. Algunos volvieron, pero el desempleo y la pobreza dejaron un gran numero de ellos viviendo en el extranjero, sobre todo en Costa Rica y en los EEUU.
