TDC’s vectoring VDSL service to be available wholesale from early 2015
Denmark’s competitive telecom market has Europe’s highest broadband penetration rate, as well as a mature mobile sector which has widely available HSPA and LTE networks enabling consumer adoption of mobile data services. The recent auction for 2.6GHz spectrum will allow network operators to further increase the availability of. The fixed-line sector continues to contract, as more people forego fixed phones for VoIP and mobile-only solutions.
Fibre networks have a fast-growing footprint, while a number of community and metropolitan schemes have supplemented TDC’s own commitments to build out fibre networks. At the beginning of 2015 TDC’s network of vectored VDSL lines will be made available to other operators on a wholesale basis, which will go far to realising the government’s objective for all premises to access to 100Mb/s services by 2020.
Cable TV companies, which access more than half of Danish homes, have supplemented traditional pay TV and broadband packages with VoIP, VoD and mobile services. Analogue switch-off was affected in late 2009, allowing for 800GHz spectrum to be allocated for mobile broadband and other services.
The mobile market continues to show steady growth despite the country having one of the highest mobile penetration rates in the region. Growth has been stimulated by consumer demand for data services.
