Telecom Corporation New Zealand - Company Overview

Telecom Corporation of New Zealand is New Zealand's largest telecommunications services company, and previously the incumbent operator. The company provides a full range of internet, broadband data, voice, mobile, fixed-line calling and wholesale services for customers across New Zealand.

Since its operational separation in 2008, Chorus, (now a separate public-listed company on the NZX ), the business unit responsible for operating the Telecom NZ network, has made significant progress towards improving the company's services to the benefit of both end-users, Telecom and other industry businesses.

Previously the company passed through a transformational period in response to changing industry regulations and the announcement in 2009 of public funding for a national fibre network (the Ultra-Fast Broadband network UFB). After the company submitted several variations to allow operational separation in relation to the UFB, the company eventually demerged in late 2011. From August 2012 a new CEO has driven the company.

The progress in the UFB rollout will see Telecom move forward in its strategies for growth for several years through to at least 2015 as the UFB rollout develops. Recent changes to its company facing product ranges aimed at increasing its overall customer base include LTE commercial launches, the introduction of free WiFi hotspots, reduced mobile calling rates and flat-rate roaming data charges.

This report provides an overview of Telecom's strategic approach, products and services, business structure, network and subsidiaries. It also provides an overview of the company together with analysis on operational facts and figures.
