| In the US, housing starts fell by 4.1% in December having grown by a cumulative 24% over the previous six months. They remained 25% up on a year earlier but were still running at only around a third of the levels seen during 2003-06. The money value of residential construction put in place had risen by 1.9% in November to stand 2.0% up on a year earlier, while that of non-residential construction had increased by 0.9% to stand down 0.1% in annual terms. |
