Despite a slowing in the annual growth rate, quarterly expansion in China this year has been quite stable. But this masks a shift in the composition of output towards services at the sector level and towards consumption instead of investment at the expenditure level. These trends are likely to continue over the next year but a fall in house prices on the month in June adds to the risk of a sputtering in consumption growth following a wider correction in asset prices.
