Energy-saving and Environmental Protection in China’s 12th Five-Year Period

This report outlines the document "12th Five-year Energy-saving and Carbon Emission Reduction Consolidated Plan" issued by the State Council in September 2011 to guide environmental protection in China over the next five years. The Consolidated Plan also serves as a blueprint for other industries and the country in using resources effectively to foster long-term sustainable development. It highlights the efforts and the types of work the Chinese government plans to do over the 12th Five-year Plan (2011-2015) period to encourage energy-saving and environmental protection, to cut pollution and reduce carbon emissions in industries and society. The report details the types of environmental protection work China will engage in, the kinds of policies the government plans to give, the challenges and the measures to be taken to remedy the situation. In the last section of the report, we highlight a number of critical environmental protection technologies China plans to develop, industrialize and apply to stage a break-through in environmental protection.
