Health Net (or ‘the company’) is a managed care company. The company’s health plans and government contracts subsidiaries provide health benefits through the health maintenance organizations (HMOs), insured preferred provider organizations (PPOs) and point of service (POS) plans to approximately 5.6 million individuals across the country through group, individual, Medicare, Medicaid, United States Department of Defense, including TRICARE, and Veterans Affairs programs. The company is headquartered in Woodland Hills, California. It had 7,471 employees, consisting of 7,351 persons on a full-time basis and 120 persons on a part-time basis, as of December 31, 2011. The company recorded revenues of $11,901 million during the financial year ended December 2011 (FY2011), a decrease of 12.6% over FY2010. This decrease was primarily driven by the decline in the company’s government contracts revenue. The operating profit of the company was $179 million in FY2011, a decrease of 45.9% over FY2010. The net profit was $72.1 million in FY2011, a decrease of 64.7% over FY2010.
