Computed Tomography (CT): market research reports

Computed tomography (CT) uses tomography and digital geometry to image the human body. CT generates a 3D image of the internal organs of a patient from a series of two-dimensional x-rays taken around a single axis of rotation.

CT scanners have evolved to the point where the number of slices per rotation may no longer be the benchmark for performance. The advent of high-speed, multislice CT scanners has changed the way healthcare providers think about medical imaging, diagnosis and the treatment of patients.

Faster scanning has opened new avenues for developing and expanding clinical applications in areas such as trauma, pediatric, vascular and cardiac imaging. Multislice has propelled CT into a new era and has changed the way this modality is being used from a diagnostic tool to a broad interventional system.

Most CT scanners have been used as general-purpose systems. But some are being customized for undertaking cardiovascular studies or bone densitometry. CAD software is also impacting which has led to new applications for CT, such as detecting cancers. Generally, the CT market has been growing moderately over the past five years.
