Press Release

Infusion Products Lead Growth in $4.3 billion Home Care Products Market

New York, May 30, 2002 /PR Newswire — In the $4.3 billion U.S. market for home care products, infusion products are showing the strongest growth, according to a new study released today from Kalorama Information and available from MarketResearch.com. Although not the largest segment of the market, home infusion therapy posted 10% to 11% growth in recent years, and the study predicts that it will continue at that pace through 2006.

According to the new study, The U.S. Market for Home Care Products, demographic trends, cost measures, and changing patient care practices will drive growth in every segment. The U.S. population is aging, cost containment measures are moving patients out of formal care settings faster, and more chronically and terminally ill patients are choosing the home as a more comfortable setting than institutional care.

Although some home care markets are maturing, there are still many dynamic areas in which companies are maneuvering to compete more effectively. “In ambulatory aids, many competitors are offering specialized heavy-duty products for overweight and obese patients,” notes Steven Heffner, Acquisitions Editor at Kalorama Information. “Invacare, for example, has created a special line of home care equipment for the bariatric population. Other competitors will undoubtedly follow suit with their own bariatric product extensions and products for other specialized populations.”

The current study is the third time Kalorama has investigated the home care products market and represents new primary research into the major segments; ambulatory aids, bathroom safety supplies, beds, wheelchairs, infusion pumps, infused nutritional supplements and pharmaceuticals, dialysis products, respiratory equipment, monitors, incontinence supplies, ostomy products, pressure relief products, TENS units, and many other miscellaneous home care products. The study analyzes size, growth, and share of each market, and also discusses trends, products and strategies.
