Intellectual Property Rights in Japanese Innovative Biotechnology

While the news on genome science was scarce two years ago, the frequency of articles rapidly increased recently. Both scientists and the Japanese biotech industry were very active during this period. Not only did Japan witness the growth of several traditionally chemical and drug pharmaceutical companies towards biotech research, but also the involvement of some engineering and software companies in this field, mainly in the development of sequencing machines, biochip devices and software and in the bioinformatics sector.
