Consumer behaviour online has changed significantly over the last 15 years as connection speeds have increased and innovative new services continue to be developed and launched. Over a five year period, our research forecasts the growth of users, usage and traffic for 20 individual service categories, and revenues for 10 of those categories, breaking down the different types of usage and identifying key trends.
Overview:
It should be of no surprise that Internet traffic continues to rise globally, driven by bandwidth hungry applications and services, such as video, file sharing and cloud-based services, as well as the continued growth in Internet users. Through our research into Internet traffic we have analysed the different types of internet usage globally, building regional and country-level profiles.
Our analysis has illustrated that the ‘typical consumer’ differs greatly country-by-country. For example, South Korea and Japan are often grouped together due to their status as homes of “super-fast” broadband. However, the types of services accessed in each country couldn’t be any more different. Our research identifies a number of other important trends over the five-year forecast period, including the changing face of online piracy, the role of social gaming and the increasing importance of online video on to connected devices beyond the PC.
By understanding what services will consume bandwidth and generate revenues over the next five years, users of this analysis will be able to look at which services could offer revenue generation opportunities, as well as help them understand more about the network equipment, software and strategies they should employ to ease the strain. In addition, you can also benchmark usage of your own network against our predictions.
This research will help you:
- Plan your investment in networks and infrastructure with lower risk
- Understand what services are key to your users now and in the future
- Benchmark usage of your network
- Model demand for different services
- Predict where the global traffic hotspots will be
